What Really is SEO Article Marketing?

By Michele Walls Platinum Quality Author

SEO article marketing is the use of articles to increase the number of serious visitors to a website and thus raise its ranking. These articles are written using keywords as indicators of what their topic is all about. The more significant for the topic is the keyword(s) used in the article, the higher it ranks for the search engine. All other conditions remaining the same, that article can be easier found on the internet than an article having a less significant keyword(s).

If properly sprinkled with a respectable percentage of top ranking keywords, marketing articles stand a good chance of floating to the top of the list of search results in a search engine. People publish these articles mainly in article submission sites and blogs. The best way to make them easily accessible is to include them with the most popular submission sites.

SEO articles often feature links that go back to the author's website or to the website of a product that he is promoting. The more people click on that link, the bigger the number of visitors who land on that website. Since volume of quality traffic is one of the criteria for determining the significance or rank of a webpage, article marketing indirectly enhances that ranking as well as the visibility of the site to surfers.

You yourself, with some knowledge of keyword ranking and appropriate skills can write an SEO article. On the other hand, having these articles written by other writers does not cost much. Therefore, you can do it at no cost or have it done at an affordable price for you.

Without the corresponding knowledge about keywords, writing SEO articles can be time-consuming since you will have to research for the right keywords first before attempting to insert them. If it so happens that you did not select the correct keywords your article may not be found easily on the internet either by you or your readers. In the meantime, you will have wasted your time and/or your money for nothing.

Article marketing is a type of information campaign. The link it provides lands the reader on a sales campaign banner or page. These articles are therefore ideal for promoting new products and services or explaining what those things are all about so that the prospective client can be motivated to take a look at it.

The link from the article in the submission site or the blog to your website is called a back link. The number of such links, as mentioned, directly affects the rank of your page. Besides this, the prestige of the link or the respectability and popularity of the site it is coming from is also evaluated for gauging the significance of your page. That is why most people want to submit to popular article directories.

As an alternative to paying for advertisement slots in other websites, article marketing is a cheaper and often cost-free alternative. Many submission sites offer free membership and free posting for the first few articles. Article marketing is also an excellent way of giving your prospective clients confidence in your product prior to actually buying it. This holds true for as long as these write-ups are accurate, interesting and informative.

To start writing an SEO article you should know what you want to say about the object you are promoting. Having arranged your thoughts in a logical order you can proceed to find the best keywords for it. You need to use one of the keyword ranking tools that can be found online. With the keyword in hand, make your article easy to read and without grammatical error. After finishing it with the right keyword density, check it for plagiarism.

If it passes all those validations, you are ready to publish it in as many prestigious article submission sites as you can.

SEO - Quality Vs Quantity

You see it all the time. Get 500 social networking links and if you act now, we'll throw in a link from God's personal home page to yours. OK, maybe I stretched the last part a bit, but how many times do these promotions really work?

Although there is no shortage of people willing to take your money, often these attempts do little more than increase hits while failing to deliver results. Typically, low quality links or extremely vague keywords will produce many hits but fail to generate turnovers. SEO consultants will often write this off saying that you need to work on your site. Naturally, all websites require on-page optimization. However, this criticism ignores the fact that every once in a while, everything goes right and you have that one promotion that actually works. If the same keywords were used, why do good results not always follow?

Sometimes the answer may be as simple as the pagerank. A high page ranking site will certainly yield more weight than a low ranking one. Moreover, if the link is featured directly on a home page that receives high traffic, of course this will attract more attention. The fact of the matter is though, often it is hard to differentiate exactly why two almost identical promotions produce very different results.

If your turnover rate is low, it may be a sign that the link quality itself is poor. Sometimes a single article or even blog entry may produce better results than a dozen backlinks from irrelevant web directories or forums. If the backlink does not contain relevant text around it, it will quite often produce little action.

To maximize link effectiveness, sometimes it is best to take matters into your own hands. Although your company may be able to gamble $250 a week on various promotions, if links occasionally come from inappropriate sources, keeping a retainer on such affiliates may not be worth it. A sports site linking to a website that sells dinnerware doesn't cut it. Failing to monitor the marketing efforts of others can also have serious consequences if you become associated inadvertently with "bad neighbors" that have repeatedly abused certain tactics to try to gain an edge.

Although mathematically a few well structured links may not seem competitive verses mass marketing campaigns, perseverance and quality backlinks will always score higher. It may be frustrating to stay the course, but those that do, often find they are better off in the long run.
